I’ve been wrenching for years now. After blowing up my first car, I was loaned a first-generation Toyota Avalon while I worked on swapping the engine and transmission in my old VW. In the process, I fell in love with modifying every car I could get my hands on. Unlike the vibrant aftermarket scene surrounding VWs, the Avalon—a car known more for grocery runs than lap times—had virtually no support.
When the stock suspension failed, I installed a set of coilovers, and from there, things snowballed. Once the VW was back on the road, I eventually sold it and committed to tuning the Avalon for track performance.
From day one, every upgrade came with the same response: “That doesn’t exist for this car.” With virtually no aftermarket support, it became my mission to design, fabricate, and validate functional performance modifications for a platform that few had dared to take seriously.
